About the Film:

A tragicomedy based on the eponymous short story by Luigi Pirandello, which was first published in 1900. While the original story takes place in Sicily, the plot of this film adaptation is set in a contemporary Czech village. Due to various family interests, the young violinist Anička and the widowed, aging gravedigger František are forced into an unwanted marriage by their relatives. We thus follow a story about loneliness, about love beyond the grave, but also about trying not to resent life and learning to move on, even though the loss of our loved ones still hurts.

Director Biography:

I was born in Košice in Slovakia on 25th May in 1976. In 1983 my family moved to České Budejovice where I went to the elementary school and the grammer school as well.

In 1996 I passed the entrance examinations at the Faculty of Arts Philosophical faculty at the Charles University to study Czech language and literature and Italian language and literature. My diploma thesis was called the Myth and reality in works of Cesare Pavese and Elio Vittorini and I discussed it in 2002 and I finished the University with the Master degree of Czech and Italian language and literature. In 2011 I decided to return to study of the literature and in 2019 I did the Ph.D. degree of the modern Italian literature. My Ph.D. thesis was on the neorealist literature and cinema.
In the years 2016-2017 I attended public course for new filmmakers (Freecinema which collaborate with the teachers from FAMU school in Prague), where I shot my first film “The Treasure” as final task. The film was awarded as best film of the class that year and has had several local showings since and has been awarded at the many international indie film festivals.

In 2021 I shot my second short film ” The first night” based on the short story of the same name by Luigi Pirandello and the film has just started its journey to the film festivals.
